This past weekend, I attended the Merrithew Mindful Movement 2016 Symposium for one of my favorite weekends of the year: my annual continuing education with STOTT PILATES.
I took two fascinating full day sessions with STOTT Pilates founder Moira Merrithew, who studied under Romana Kryzanowska (one of the most well known and highly regarded keepers of Joseph Pilates’ work).
Moira shared some engaging stories from her original training in New York and took us through the original workouts as she remembers learning it (hint: there were some extremely significant differences). She then explained the research behind the evolution of the body of work that we collectively now know as STOTT Pilates. The weekend closed with her cueing us through the STOTT Pilates Advanced Matwork repertoire so we could physically experience the updated material (and yeah, my abs feel it today).
This was a fascinating weekend for a education-oriented pilates geek (that’s me). I was privileged to learn this directly from the gracious Moira, an industry thought leader and pioneer who contributed to this work that personally changed my life, and I hope touches yours.
